We began a unit studying the many different styles of dwellings (homes) that the Native Americans lived in long ago. The children suggested that we make our own!
On Tuesday the children choose groups and the dwelling they would make. The groups met and illustrated a picture of how they image their structure and wrote a list of the materials they would need. The class went for a walk to collect natural materials.
On Wednesday the groups began to create (2 groups choose a Tee Pee and 1 group choose a Daub). It was amazing to see the team work and the collaboration that the groups used.
On Thursday the groups measured the height and width of their structure. They used these measurements to cut out the amount of Muslin to design the outside covering. The students began to add Native American symbols to the covering.
